BIO

Relenter, a 4 piece band from Champaign/Urbana Illinois, formed as a collaboration of rock and synth influenced musicians. Merging rock guitar and haunting piano melodies with synth arpeggios and live drums, Relenter has created a variety of soulful, energetic, and moody alternative songs.

Such is evident on their latest release, Comfort of My Dreams. An introspective collection of songs, CoMD delves into themes of life, loss, struggle, and rebirth, yet lyrically maintains a shred of optimism. Relenter consists of Chris Parker, Robert Martz, Kenny Flores, and their newest member, guitarist Adam Tufano. Lead vocals and primary songwriting duties belong to Parker. Equally comfortable on guitar, piano, or keyboards, Parker records and engineers the majority of Relenter's music in his studio (Kaleid Studios). Martz, Relenter's primary engineer, contributes to the arrangements as well as taking on the primary duties of mixing, mastering, and co-producing in his private studio (Audio Replication Technologies). Flores, a rock and jazz influenced drummer/percussionist provides the backbone and brings Relenter's sound to life. Newest member, Tufano, adds a unique lead guitar element to Relenter, and contributes to the songwriting.

Comfort of My Dreams is highlighted by The Answer, Faded Lines, Scarred, Time Slipped Away, and the title track, Comfort of My Dreams.

Relenter is influenced by Depeche Mode, The Cure, Garbage, and Tears for Fears.

REVIEWS

  • "Relenter fills a void left by bands like Depeche Mode but what sets them apart is they manage to make the genre their own!"
    Jim Hewitt - Revolution Network
  • "The reflective nature of Through the Mirror absorbs attention and maintains interest. It is an enriching debut release that floods the conscious with melody as the musical patterns pleasantly haunt the subconscious long after the music has stopped."
    Rachel Jablonski - streamofconsciousness.net
  • "Relenter's "Through the Mirror" harkens back to a time when Depeche Mode and Joy Division ruled the air waves. This three-piece band has an amazing full sound about them that comes off very well produced on their debut effort."
Troy Michael - Innocent Words Magazine
  • "...what they're doing is so set apart from so many other bands. In Through the Mirror, the band rely on a heavy emphasis on composition, taking songs to near orchestratic heights of production and instrumentation for a three-man rock band.
Joe Pence - Innocent Words Magazine
  • Through the Mirror is a strong debut that deserves its credit for being melodic, keyboard friendly, and containing modern sounds without going into the trend of copying new wave music from 1981 like 500 other bands in the current state of modern rock music."
Nathan Schwalm - OpeningBands.com online magazine
  • "Relenter has really fleshed out their music and made it faster, and they showed that on stage. It was a great set and showed why their latest album, Through the Mirror, is worth checking out. The highlight of their set, for me, was hearing "Bombshell" live."
    Chris Earnhart - WPGU Radio
